Longtime ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith is being dragged by fans after involving himself in the ongoing beef between Ray J, Brandy, and mega pop star Beyoncé. Days after Ray J posted an Instagram video calling out Beyoncé and her husband, Jay Z, for allegedly ignoring his sister, Brandy, backstage at her ongoing tour, Smith shared his perspective on the situation and slammed the "Sexy Can I" artist for blowing things out of proportion. However, his comments didn't land well with the general public, who wasted no time torching him in different social media threads for involving himself in one too many situations that have nothing to do with him.

Smith took some time out of his busy schedule to chat with The Shade Room, where he spoke about current events, his career, and trending topics. At one point during the live stream, Smith shared his thoughts on Ray J's video, questioning the "Love & Hip Hop" star over his passionate reaction to Beyoncé allegedly dodging pictures with his sister.

"What you caught up in your feelings for to the point where you have to broadcast it to the world?" the "First Take" host asked. "Why? There are worse things to happen to us than not have pictures taken with somebody." Continuing, Smith criticized Ray J for sharing too much of his personal business. "Why does everybody have to know everything?"

For those who might be unfamiliar, Ray J shared a video on Instagram in early December 2025, taking shots at Beyoncé for allegedly being cold to his sister, Brandy, when she attended multiple stops of the "Boy Is Mine" tour. "N—as need to pull up when they come to the show. Come say what’s up to Brandy too, Jay-Z and Beyoncé," Ray J said in the video, later stating that his family are "big fans" of the Carters and that they "look up to y'all."

Ray J didn't stop there, though. He took it even further and stated, "For y’all to come to every one of Brandy and Monica’s shows and never say what’s up to B and take all the pictures, I don’t like it." According to the "I Hit It First" singer, it would cost Beyoncé and Jay Z nothing to "just walk by Brandy's room and pull up and say, 'What's up, B? Have a good show.'"

Fans Torch Smith For Commenting On Ray J's Statements About Beyoncé

Ray J had already sparked a strong reaction among social media users after his video went viral, and Smith received a similar response. Many users shared their thoughts regarding Smith's stance on the matter, calling him out speaking on topics outside of his area of expertise.

"Sometimes I wish he'd keep his opinions as far back as [his] hairline," a user wrote, while second wrote, "This has nothing to do with sports... this has nothing to do with you, Stephen."

A third user added, "Y'all are really making a thing out of this. Beyoncé went to support her sister (Kelly Rowland) and her childhood friend and it's been a topic and manufactures beef for a week now."

The controversy Ray J stirred up didn't seem to bother his sister, Brandy, or her tour partner, singer Monica.

In fact, the pair joked about the situation during a recent show, with Monica telling the audience that she took Ray J's phone away after his dramatic post.

She later showed him love, saying, "Y’all make some noise for Ray J. He’s not just Brandy’s brother, but he’s my brother, too."

Ray J Arrested After Allegedly Waving A Gun At His Children's Mother

The holiday season has been a bit chaotic for Ray J, as he was arrested on Thanksgiving day and thrown behind bars after allegedly pulling a gun on his child's mother, Princess Love, during a heated argument.

According to an earlier report from The Blast, Ray J was taken to a Los Angeles area jail and charged with making a criminal threat before posting $50,000 bond.

In a later statement, Princess addressed Ray J and encouraged him to take his well-being and mental health seriously, stating, "You're more than a drunk."
