Apparently, they wanted to get some relaxation time and booked a massage, but after the masseuse arrived around 2 pm, they rang the bell several times to no avail before leaving, per the Daily Mail.

That was what prompted their daughter, who lives across the street, to go check in on them and walk into the horrifying scene.

According to the news outlet, she reportedly told the cops that a family member "should be a suspect" because they are "dangerous."

The couple was married for over 30 years before their deaths. They share three adult children, Jake, Nick, and Romy, while the Hollywood director also has a daughter named Tracy with his ex-wife, Penny Marshall.

Meanwhile, police have arrested the couple's son, Nick, as the prime suspect in their investigation and booked him for felony murder.

According to TMZ, father, mother, and son were all involved in a heated argument over the weekend when they visited Conan O'Brien's holiday party.

Reports claim they got into a "very loud argument," so loud that other guests got an earful.

Sources told the news outlet that Rob and Michele left the party shortly after, but it's not known if Nick went with them.

Sources claim Rob and his wife, Michele, had tried to get help for their son, mainly due to his substance abuse issues.

Michele in particular is said to have been frustrated with Nick amid his mental health struggles, with insiders telling the news outlet that she didn't know what to do with him, saying, "We've tried everything."

The 32-year-old was arrested on Monday morning and was initially held on a $4 million bond.

However, it has since been rescinded, and Nick is now being held without bail.

Nick's struggle with drug addiction is well-documented, as he previously opened up about how it rendered him homeless at some point. When he was 22 years old, he had already been to rehab a staggering 17 times.

"If I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless," he told People Magazine, seemingly referring to his family.

He added, "I was homeless in Maine. I was homeless in New Jersey. I was homeless in Texas. I spent nights on the street. I spent weeks on the street. It was not fun."

At the time, he sat for an interview with "BUILD Series," where he detailed how he "didn't bond well" with Rob when he was younger, but working with him on the 2016 film "Being Charlie" made him "feel closer to him."

Rob and Michele weren't particularly pleased with the way they handled his addiction, telling the LA Times in a 2015 interview that they didn't listen well enough.

"When Nick would tell us that it wasn't working for him, we wouldn't listen," Rob said at the time. "We were desperate, and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son."
