Joey Bart sustained a left hand fracture in his third game with his new team, the Chicago White Sox.

The catcher left Chicago’s Thursday road game against the Boston Red Sox after he was hit by a 97.7 mph pitch from Erik Miller on the hand in the seventh inning. Soon after, the White Sox announced Bart was diagnosed with a fifth metacarpal fracture and that he would undergo further evaluation.

White Sox manager Will Venable said postgame, “We’ll continue to check it out. It’s a fracture. Obviously, it will be an (injury-list situation), and we’ll figure out what we’re going to do and what the timeline is with him as we continue to evaluate.”

Bart went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts and two hit-by-pitches, as he was also plunked on the foot earlier in the game.

Drew Romo ran for Bart and then replaced him at catcher for the remainder of the game, which the White Sox lost 12-11 in 13 innings.

The White Sox acquired Bart from the Atlanta Braves on Monday before the trade deadline. Chicago sent right-hander Duncan Davitt, who had been designated for assignment, to Atlanta in the deal.

With Chicago catcher Kyle Teel on the injured list with a left ankle sprain, Bart made his team debut Tuesday and started at catcher. He entered late in the game Wednesday before drawing the start again Thursday.

In 379 career games for the San Francisco Giants (2020-23), Pittsburgh Pirates (2024-26), Braves and White Sox, Bart has batted .237 with 32 home runs and 126 RBIs.
