Netflix has postponed its “Skyscraper Live” event, in which Alex Honnold was set free-climb one of the tallest buildings in the world Taipei 101, due to unprecedented weather conditions.

“Due to weather, we are unable to proceed with today’s #SkyscraperLIVE event,” a Netflix spokesperson said. “It has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 24 at 8 p.m. ET | 5 p.m. PT. Safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your understanding.”

The streamer postponed the climb just 30 minutes before Honnold was set to begin at 9 a.m. local time.

The professional climber will now free-climb the Taiwanese skyscraper Saturday. He will have no ropes or harnesses attached, no safety nets to land in. Honnold was the subject of the 2018 biographical documentary “Free Solo,” which won a BAFTA and an Academy Award.

Taipei 101 has 101 stories and is 1,667 feet tall. Hannold described the climb as a low-risk, high-consequence activity. One French climber Alain Robert has scaled the 11th tallest building in the world before with ropes, and it took him over four hours. Honnold anticipates he will be faster.

“I think, if I do this, it’ll be the biggest urban free solo ever,” Honnold said. “I think it’s the tallest building that’s been climbed. I’m not 100% sure, but I think so.”

Netflix has built in a 10-second delay into the livestream to spare viewers in the worst case scenario. Honnold himself said that if something goes wrong, he’ll probably die, in a recent sit-down interview with CNN. But he noted that the geometry of the building is such that you could fall and still be safe.

The live event was set to be the debut of Netflix’s in-house sports anchor Elle Duncan. She previously spent eight years at ESPN, anchoring SportsCenter and hosting coverage across college and professional basketball, including “WNBA Countdown” and “College GameDay.”
