Eddie Howe has been backed to one day manage England following his Newcastle United departure.
The Magpies boss is set to leave St. James’ Park after almost five years in charge.
Howe has decided to step down as manager just 24 days before the start of the new Premier League season.
Although his exit has not yet been officially confirmed, Matthias Jaissle is expected to replace him in the dugout.
talkSPORT understands Newcastle are in advanced talks to appoint the Al Ahli manager as their new boss.
The Magpies begin the season at home to Liverpool on Sunday, August 23.
Howe reaction
Following the news of Howe’s imminent exit, Martin Tyler heaped praise on the former Bournemouth boss live on talkSPORT.
Reacting to his departure, he told Olly Clink and Charlie Baker: “I hope it’s for proper reasons. I know he had a bit of ill health last year and one wonders whether that had some impact on his decision.
“I hope it didn’t. I hope it’s a straight football decision. It’s been a complicated time in the club, I don’t need to tell you that.
“When players seem to be leaving, when you can’t do too much about them and other aspects of the football club.
“It is a tough part of management now that this raft of sporting directors, directors of football, call them what you will, call the shots.

“And I think it’s perhaps too much against what you really believe is best for the club and the best thing is to shake hands and move away.
“But he’s a wonderful man Eddie, he’s very hard-working to start with managerial talents. He’s first in, last out in terms of the training ground and I think he’ll deserve a break from it.
“Whether he wanted a break, you’d have to ask him. I can only wish him well because to work with as a broadcaster, he’s special.”
Howe had been in charge of Newcastle since November 2021.
During his tenure, he has twice guided the club to Champions League qualification.
Meanwhile, their Carabao Cup triumph in 2025 ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.

Tyler has also tipped Howe to move into international management with England.
Asked if the 48-year-old is a future Three Lions boss, he added: “100 per cent, yes and I think maybe it has to come at a certain age.
“Thomas Tuchel’s not of that age and, I mean Thomas came close and he should be respected for that.
“I think people have forgotten that third place, away from 1966, is the best England have ever done in a World Cup.
“It was like, ‘oh, we got so close,’ but to finish third meant something and what a way to do it actually.”
Thomas Tuchel’s side finished third in North America this summer, their best performance since winning the World Cup in 1966.

Despite beating France in the third-place play-off, though, Tuchel has faced criticism for the manner of England’s semi-final loss to Argentina.
His tactical approach after taking the lead has come under fire, with their opponents scoring twice late on after the Three Lions had brought on additional defenders.
However, the FA have backed their current boss, who is under contract until the end of Euro 2028.
Tuchel signed a two-year extension on his previous deal in February.
