Maria Shriver Slams Trump’s ‘Tyranny’ And Champions Rob Reiner's Dream For A ‘Unified’ America

Maria Shriver has plenty to say about the state of America under Donald Trump’s rule.
The former California First Lady recently shared a lengthy essay in which she looked forward to the nation’s 250th birthday and marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
However, her piece was not without criticism of the president, as she appeared to liken Trump's leadership to "tyranny."
Shriver has remained outspoken about her views on Trump, previously calling him out after he claimed late actor Rob Reiner suffered from "Trump Derangement Syndrome."
Maria Shriver Looks Back At Donald Trump’s ‘Tumultuous’ One Year In Office

In Shriver's January 17 article, she reflected on the state of the country while encouraging citizens to remain optimistic despite it all. Shriver was not afraid to shine light on the happenings since Trump’s reemergence as president.
“One year ago, this president was sworn in. What a tumultuous year it has been,” the 70-year-old wrote in her publication, Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper.
She continued, describing how agencies were disrupted, landmark buildings were renamed in Trump's image, health insurance was lost, and the press faced accusations of "fake news" and lawsuits.
The former “CBS News Morning” anchor also pointed out contradictions in Trump's stance on protest. While he encouraged demonstrations in Venezuela and Iran, he discouraged them in Minneapolis. She called the conflicting reports from the administration "dizzying" and "scary."
Reflecting on these developments, Shriver said they made her think about America's beginnings and the people who risked everything to “live free of tyranny.”
Maria Shriver Calls For Unity In America Like Late Bob And Michele Reiner Dreamed Of

Shriver continued her article, sparking hope towards rebuilding the country, remembering how her late friends Bob and Michele Reiner had big hopes for the country.
“Just before they died, my friends, Rob and Michele Reiner imagined a campaign unlike any other— one in which America herself was the candidate,” Shriver wrote.
“They dreamt of that because they believed America belonged to all of us and that we can all get behind her,” the journalist shared, noting that she loved the idea and now believes in it more.
Shriver then concluded with a call for unity, writing, “America, like each of us, is strongest when she's unified and whole.”
Maria Shriver Condemns Donald Trump's 'Inhumane Behavior' Following the Reiners' Deaths

Shriver has since expressed sadness about the passing of the late filmmaker and his wife. However, she did not hold back from defending the couple against Trump after he mocked their demise.
As The Blast reported, the journalist took to X, calling Trump out for having “no human decency.” She added, “This goes beyond. It's absolutely disgusting,” describing his actions as “inhumane behavior.”
Shriver was not alone in her outburst. Her son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, also condemned Trump’s comments, calling them "disgusting and vile."
How Donald Trump Distastefully Mocked Rob Reiner’s Death

Shriver’s and her son’s criticism of the commander-in-chief follows his comment, where he claimed Rob suffered from what he called “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
The president argued that Reiner had an “obsession” with him that affected others, and his “paranoia” intensified as his administration achieved its goals earlier this year.
Despite the backlash, Trump stood by his comments and even brought up more accusations against the actor while addressing the press in the Oval Office.
As The Blast reported, Trump accused Reiner of spreading false claims about him being controlled by Russia, calling it part of the "Russia hoax" and insisting the actor was among those fueling it.
He further alleged that Reiner had destroyed his career and turned into “a deranged person.”
Donald Trump Targets Kennedy Family Amid Mourning for Tatiana Schlossberg
Trump's remarks about Reiner were not the only insensitive comments directed at a grieving family.
Following the death of Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of JFK and cousin to Shriver, the 79-year-old Republican turned his attention to the Kennedys.
According to The Blast, while he did not directly reference Schlossberg's passing, Trump shared screenshots of MAGA supporters mocking the family after the Kennedy Center was renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center.
One post claimed the Kennedys had "long neglected the Kennedy Center," while another read, “The Trumps have always been supporters of the art. The Kennedys are supporters of the Kennedys."
