In the aftermath of the movie’s success, Winslet found herself thrown into the world of fame, which she was unprepared for.

“It was horrific,” she said, adding that her world was “totally turned upside down.”

The 50-year-old actress revealed that her privacy was invaded several times. Her phone was tapped, and the paparazzi followed her everywhere, sometimes even looking through her bins to get insights into her diet.

Winslet admitted that she “wasn't ready for that world” of fame after “Titanic.” As such, she struggled so much that she was “terrified” to go to sleep for fear of the paparazzi.

She eventually had to find a way to deal with it all, and she did it by indulging in a “good meal, a shared conversation, a nice cup of coffee, a bit of Radiohead and a good poo.”

“You know, life’s all the better for those things,” she told the BBC.

In addition to eating a good meal to deal with the stress of constantly being followed, Winslet also leaned on family and friends for support.

The five-time Golden Globe winner encountered similar intense media intrusion when she split from her second husband, Sam Mendes, in 2010.

“I was being followed by paparazzi in New York City with my two small kids, who wanted to, of course, know the reason why Sam and I had split up,” she painfully recalled.

Winslet didn't only have to deal with annoying paparazzi, but she was also plagued by heavy criticism over her weight.

As The Blast reported, her agent constantly asked about her weight. “When I was younger, my agent would get calls saying, 'How's her weight?'" she recalled.

It was a struggle for her because she would often read unsavory comments about her weight in the tabloids, and there wasn’t much she could do about it. When she was younger, she was nicknamed “blubber” and advised to even take on “fat girl” roles.

She now believes in herself and doesn't pay mind to what other people say because it “doesn't matter.”

While Winslet remained firm in her view of using drugs to lose weight, fans were divided over her views.

“While I agree with her, I also have to say that it's slightly unfair for Kate Winslet to judge those who might want plastic surgery because 99.9% of us didn't start out as beautiful as her and are aging far worse," a user wrote, per The Blast.

Another user slammed her for criticising other women’s choices, while another defended her, saying that she was only referring to people who abuse drugs.”

Someone further applauded her for speaking up, saying that young women worldwide would benefit from hearing her speak about the dangers of abusing drugs for weight loss.
