Karamo Brown's 'Queer Eye' Drama's Alleged Origin Revealed

Karamo Brown's mom was right at the center of his fallout with his "Queer Eye" co-stars!
The media personality did not just part ways with his group of friends out of the blue; it was a chain reaction from some things that were said in his absence, which his mother caught wind of.
Karamo Brown has now explained the reason for his absence on the show in a lengthy statement, which was released earlier in the year.
Karamo Brown's Mother Heard All The Tea About Her Son On Set

The TV star and his "Queer Eyes" co-stars, including Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Jonathan Van Ness, and Jeremiah Brent, fell out at the beginning of filming season 10 last summer in Washington, D.C.
The whole drama began when Brown's mom came to the set to visit her son, and she was given headphones to observe filming from a corner. The media personality had stepped away from the group, leaving his mother to accidentally become aware of a conversation between his co-stars about him.
As stated by TMZ, the group was reportedly sharing negative thoughts about Brown with heavy criticisms about some of his lifestyle choices. Upon Brown's arrival back on set, his mother gave a debrief of the things she heard, which immediately created a rift between the TV stars Porowski, France, and Van Ness.
Brent seems to be the only one on Brown's good list, as they currently follow each other on Instagram.
The 45-Year-Old Left The Show To Protect His Peace

Brown was noticeably missing during press rounds for the 10th season of the show, which his fellow hosts have taken charge of promoting. The Blast noted that during their stop on "CBS Mornings," anchor Gayle King read a statement from Brown explaining why he was absent.
"I hope everyone remembers the main theme I have tried to teach them over the past decade, which is to focus on and to protect their mental health/peace from people or a world that seeks to destroy it. Which is why I can't be there today," Brown stressed.
King added that the host communicated through his assistant that he was also concerned about being bullied. The TV star was equally absent at the press rounds for the show on "TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle," where he sent that email, which emphasized that he had dealt with mental and emotional abuse for years.
Brown noted that his therapist has advised him to stay away from situations that may trigger him, and the promo for the 10th season alongside his co-stars was one of those.
Karamo Brown's Co-Hosts Were Blindsided By His Absence

The TV star's co-stars were seemingly shocked to hear that Brown would not be joining them on the press rounds. Despite the sudden nature of the information, the group tried its best to handle it professionally.
Porowski registered her surprise, emphasizing that the "Queer Eye" crew has been together for a long time and, as usual, families are complicated. Van Ness was filled with praise for Brown for doing what he felt was best for him in such a situation.
Porowski voiced on "TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle" that he, alongside the rest of the crew, fully supported Brown for stepping back to take care of himself by avoiding the interviews.
France then established that "Queer Eye" was not just about them as hosts, but about the absolute heroes that often get showcased in the series.
The TV Star Nearly Lost His Son To A Drug Overdose

In 2022, The Blast shared that Brown spoke about one of his most profound experiences as a father, where he stumbled upon his son, nearly losing his life to the effects of a drug overdose.
The media star only learned about his son when he was 10 years old, and he subsequently got full custody of him in 2011. In a short preview of an episode on his show "Karamo," Brown explained that he struggled with sharing that side of himself with the public. In his words:
"Almost two years ago, I found my oldest son, Jason, lying on the floor, dying from a drug overdose. And I was terrified. I was about to lose my son. I didn't know what to do. I was in shock."
He seized the moment to encourage his fans and anyone who struggled with abuse to ask for help and embrace help when it is being offered.
Karamo Brown Credited His Son For Helping Him Conquer Addiction

Brown recalled changing his ways for good when he discovered he was a father. According to him, "My son saved my life — and as much as people have always said I saved his, he saved my life because it gave me an opportunity to see that there was more to life than just me."
PEOPLE noted that the 45-year-old also took over taking care of his son's half-brother, Christian till he fully adopted him in 2010, and they all moved to Los Angeles in 2011. Brown opened up on Christian reigniting his passion for creating content after he took a break to focus on parenting and social work.
"He was writing a paper on living your dreams, and he asked me if being a social worker was my dream. I said 'No.' He said, 'Well, why don't you go after your dreams?' I quit my job, maybe two months later." A few years later, Queer Eye premiered on Netflix," Brown shared.
In 2019, Brown expressed gratitude for the fact that he was able to raise Jason, describing it as one of the best choices he could have made for himself. He recalled being enveloped with pure love the moment he set eyes on him, and all the missing parts in him felt whole again.
