Billy Ray Cyrus's Ex-Wife Accuses Him Of Dark And Controlling Behavior

Billy Ray Cyrus is once again in the headlines, this time following explosive accusations from his ex-wife, Firerose.
The singer has been accused of “narcissistic abuse” and controlling behavior during their short-lived marriage.
In a post on Instagram, Firerose detailed years of emotional turmoil, sharing a chilling voice recording that allegedly captures Billy Ray verbally abusing her behind closed doors.
Firerose Details Years Of Fear And Control
In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, Firerose described the “unimaginably dark” time she endured while married to Billy Ray Cyrus.
“I spent years being terrified. I was trained to be afraid of what would happen if I even dared to think about sharing a glimpse of the truth I was living behind closed doors,” she wrote.
She went on to explain how the abuse affected her sense of self, writing, “Over the years, my spirit was systematically worn down so that I became a shell of the person I was. That is always what happens with narcissistic abuse. It's not an accident. It's very much calculated so that the fear of sharing what's really happening, overrides the agony of surviving alone.”
Firerose also acknowledged the immense courage it took to come forward.
She said, “For every survivor who's reaching out to me, I'm sharing this for you. You are not alone. I promise, you can survive no matter how unimaginably dark it gets. When the power imbalance is also so extreme, it just amplifies the abuse in a way that's hard to imagine unless you've lived it.”
She concluded her statement with gratitude and a note of faith, writing, “Only by the grace of God did I survive and have I found my voice again. The Bible tells us 'do not be afraid' 365 times, one for every day of the year. Thank Christ I'm not afraid anymore.”
Shocking Audio Emerges Allegedly Of Billy Ray Cyrus

Firerose accompanied the post with a voice recording, titled “behind closed doors,” which she claims features Billy Ray verbally attacking her.
In the clip, a man’s voice can be heard saying, “F-ck you, you will not listen. You will not f-cking listen.”
Firerose responds in the recording, pleading, “I'm listening, please.” The man continues, “Ok listen to this, if you want to salvage anything about us, you sit on the couch. Well, what the f-ck are you gonna do?” She replies, “Please just listen to me,” but the man presses on, “What are you gonna f-cking do?”
The exchange grows increasingly hostile, with the man declaring, “See you won't shut your f-ing mouth. You want me to stay, shut up. Shut your f-cking mouth. You want me to stay I'll stay here and babysit you. Cause that's what I've signed up for. Stand there and cry, why don't you stand there and cry? You deserve every bit of this. You won't f-cking stop, you are so selfish. The most selfish f-ing human being I've ever known. And I've known some selfish people. And you don't even have sense enough after the fifth f-cking time.”
He also said, "I was gonna take you to the chiropractor and go get you some food. And you still won't shut the f-ck up."
Firerose, trapped in the confrontation, responds, “I don't know when I'm allowed to talk and when I'm not.”
The recording ends with the man insisting, “Right now, you're not. Stop. It's not my f-cking fault.”
Billy Ray Cyrus Faces Public Scrutiny Over Allegations

The release of the audio comes amid an already bitter and public end to Firerose and Billy Ray's relationship. The pair broke up in May 2024.
Both parties accused one another of verbal and emotional abuse.
Court documents indicate that Firerose left the marriage without any financial settlement.
In past statements, Billy Ray Cyrus has denied the allegations of emotional abuse, asserting that he was the one subjected to verbal mistreatment.
However, the release of the recording and Firerose's detailed accounts of the abuse have reignited public debate about the dynamics of their relationship and the singer's behavior behind closed doors.
More Allegations Shed Light On Alleged Abuse

Firerose has described the abuse as a systematic pattern that involved “control, isolation, rage and manipulation.”
In a previous audio clip shared publicly, a male voice, allegedly Billy Ray Cyrus, was heard repeatedly insulting Firerose, saying per the Daily Mail, “I don't know who the f-ck you think you are… f-ck you, f-ck you. You know better than that, you idiot.”
The one-minute-and-28-second recording continues with threats and verbal attacks.
“I needed to leave two hours ago,” the man said, adding, “If you had just shut the f-ck up and left it the f-ck alone… I don't know who the f-ck you think you are. You will not f-cking listen. This ain't about your BRCA, this ain't about your surgeries, this ain't about nothing, this is about you being a f-cking b-tch.”
The clip concluded with the man’s searing assessment of her intelligence and character.
He said, “I don't think you are real smart. I've changed my mind about that. What you are is a selfish f-cking b-tch.”
Billy Ray Cyrus Has Moved On After The Divorce

The allegations have sparked a wave of media attention, highlighting the challenges survivors face when bringing forward claims of narcissistic abuse.
The voice recordings and Firerose’s detailed account offer a rare glimpse into the private struggles that can occur behind celebrity marriages.
Billy Ray Cyrus’ marriage to Firerose marked his third trip down the aisle and her second, as outlined in his divorce petition.
Before their brief union, the country star spent nearly three decades married to Tish Cyrus, with the former couple separating in 2022 after 28 years together.
Billy Ray shares five children with Tish, including global superstar Miley Cyrus, along with Noah, Braison, Brandi, and Trace.
He is also the father of Christopher Cody, whom he shares with former partner Kristin Luckey.
Following his split from Firerose, Billy Ray appears to have turned the page on that chapter of his life. The singer has since found new romance with actress Elizabeth Hurley.
The pair confirmed their relationship publicly in April 2025 and have since been spotted enjoying time together.
Their romance seemed to grow quickly, with the couple celebrating their first Christmas together last month, presenting a sharp contrast to the turmoil surrounding his recent divorce.
