Netflix has been assembling its next creature-feature swing, and this one is aiming straight for the avalanche zone. The long-gestating project Yeti has shuffled from Sony to the streamer’s film division. With production gearing up and key creative players locked in, the film is finally starting to take shape behind the scenes. Here’s what we know.

The project has been at Netflix for a while, having been initially set up in 2024 at Sony Pictures, with The Insneider first reporting its jump to Netflix back in April 2025. Back then, it was reported that it jumped to Netflix after Jon Silk, who had previously worked with Sony under a first-look deal, took a job at the streamer and is now a full-time film executive. PictureStart is the production company behind the movie, with Jessica Switch producing.

Michael Chaves is the director of the recently released The Conjuring: The Devil’s Rites, and has been often dubbed the “heir apparent” to James Wan for The Conjuring Universe, but also directed other horror titles like The Nun II in 2023 and The Curse of La Llorona in 2019. The director was initially discovered by Wan after his short film The Maiden went viral.

The script for Yeti was first crafted by Peter Gaffney, best known for his time in the animation industry, including his time on Rugrats, with script revisions by Sean Tretta. The writer, director, and producer is known for his time on 12 Monkeys, Mayans M.C., and a run of indie genre films.

Very much from the same hymn sheet as Netflix’s own Troll and perhaps even a touch of Under Paris (both of which reside on Netflix’s all-time most watched list), the film is set on a remote stretch of the Swiss Alps which becomes a battleground when an avalanche cracks open an ancient pocket of glacial ice, unleashing a primeval predator camouflaged perfectly against the snow.

Caught in the chaos are a father and his daughter, Zoey, a smart and stubborn teen who charges into danger faster than she thinks. Still reeling from her parents’ divorce, she pushes her father to fight for what truly matters, even as the creature closes in around them. As they navigate deadly terrain and a monster built to hunt in whiteout conditions, Zoey and her father must rebuild their bond while fighting to survive something as relentless as the mountains themselves.

When is Yeti in production at Netflix?

Eying a shoot in Budapest, Hungary (the exact location where Netflix’s 3 Body Problem seasons 2 and 3 are currently shooting for the foreseeable), cameras are set to roll on March 3rd for 13 weeks through June 5th, 2026.

Presumably, on that timeline, we’ll see the film land on our screens sometime in 2027.

Netflix has yet to officially announce the project, but when they do, expect a cast attached! Stay tuned for the latest.
