The insider added that Nick harbored intense feelings about his father and "hated himself for not being as talented, prolific, or beloved as his dad or grandad."

Nick co-wrote the 2015 film "Being Charlie," a semi-autobiographical drama detailing his struggles with addiction and homelessness, which Rob directed.
In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick opened up about his challenges and revealed how they helped shape him as a person. "That made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff," he said. "I met crazy great people (while homeless), so out of my element. Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in LA and being around my family. Donald Trump Shares His Own Message About Rob's Death

However, Donald Trump's message regarding the actor's death stood in stark contrast. While he acknowledged the pair's death was "sad," President Trump made a series of unsettling comments, claiming that Rob died "reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME."
"He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before," he continued.
According to The Blast, Trump's post was swiftly met with fierce backlash, as many slammed the politician for being "cruel" and "heartless."
"Regardless of politics, using someone's death to make a joke or a political point is just bottom-of-the-barrel behavior. We've lost the script on basic human decency if this is considered acceptable discourse," a user shared.
