Rob Reiner Was Worried About His Son's Deteriorating Mental Health

In the wake of Rob Reiner's son, Nick, being arrested in connection with the murder of the actor and his wife, Michele, reports have emerged detailing the family's troubles.
A source, who spoke with the New York Post, claimed that the late couple were deeply worried that their son was still using and his mental health was fast declining as a result of his addiction.
“Rob had been telling people that they’re scared for Nick and scared that his mental state was deteriorating,” the insider, who is a family friend, revealed to the outlet.
“These poor people did everything to help this kid,” the source added about the late couple.
This includes sending Nick to countless rehabilitation facilities with hopes he would finally kick the habit and sparing no expenses in trying to get him better.
However, Nick's substance abuse issues seemed too severe to overcome, and at his lowest point, he was “badly addicted to combo of opiates and heroin.”
Rob Reiner's Wife Complained To Her Friends For Months About Nick’s Issues

The same sentiments were echoed by another source who spoke with TMZ.
The insider claimed that Reiner's wife had confided in friends over the last few months that she and the actor felt lost on how to further address Nick’s situation.
They also mentioned that the couple believed they had “tried everything,” but nothing was working.
Nick's history of substance abuse dates back over a decade and was talked about by Reiner in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in September 2015.
“When Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen,’’ Reiner said of Nick’s rehab attempts.
“We were desperate, and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son,” he added.
Reiner, at the time, further claimed that those individuals who were meant to help Nick influenced them not to believe their son.
“They would tell us he’s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them,” Reiner also remarked.
Rob Reiner's Neighbor Claims Nick Had A Propensity For Violence

A day before Reiner and Michele were found dead in their home, the couple reportedly had a heated argument with their son during a Christmas party hosted by the celebrity.
Although the confrontation did not turn physical, a longtime neighbor of the deceased couple later alleged that Nick had always shown a propensity for violence, claims that seemed reinforced by his alleged involvement in his parents’ deaths.
“This is not the first time their son has been violent,’’ the source told NYP.
“I know of another incident a few years back with Nick, but I won’t say more than that,’’ added the anonymous informant. “I just never thought it would ever get to this point.

He was taken into custody on Monday night and is currently being held without bail on a felony charge.

It is unclear if he has obtained legal representation or has been assigned one by the authorities.
