News of Ray J's financial crisis came from the latest update on his Instagram page. He shared a video filmed on his phone, capturing him on the sidewalk next to tall palm trees decorated with festive Christmas lights. He explained that he had nothing to his name but his phone and a red bag containing a change of clothes.
According to Ray J, he was trying to hitch a ride from Tampa, Florida, to Los Angeles for what he hoped would become a show chronicling his experiences with families willing to help and aid him on his journey back to his children before Christmas. He named the show "Celebrity Hitchhiker," adding:
"I'm hitchhiking right now to try to get a place to stay tonight. Hopefully, I can be with a new family, and they can take me in and teach me about their rules and their goals and life, and then send me on my way to the next destination."
The R&B Singer Implored Fans To Help Him, As His Struggles Aren't Fake

Ray J repeatedly stated that he was alone in Tampa without a film crew as he would film scenes for the show on his phone. He assured fans that he was alone and in desperate need of help, telling them that if they saw him on the sidewalk, it wasn't a publicity stunt.
"I need some food, and I need shelter. Just a lot of sh-t that's happened. And I just wanna get back home and see my kids," Ray J begged. Although he was doing this for his hitchhiking show, the singer stressed that his struggles were authentic and hoped kind souls would come to his aid.
He doubled down on his stance in the post's caption, writing, "Things got bad for me. I just need shelter and a little help. I know there is still good people out in this world." Ray J also promised to repay those who came to his aid, reiterating that he hoped to get back to LA for Christmas.

The comment section was filled with interesting reactions from fans, with Ray J tugging on their heartstrings by claiming he wasn't a celebrity but a broke loser. Some found the bizarre cry for help funny, believing the singer was pulling their legs with a fake reality TV show.
"This man is FUNNNYYYY WE DONT EVEN KNOW WHEN YOU SERIOUS," a fan wrote. Another agreed, claiming Ray J played too much. Some celebrities joined the trolling, with fellow artist Phill Wade playfully begging Brandy to come get Ray J.
Rapper Troy Ave told Ray J to quit teasing and claimed he would send him a plane ticket. Other fans took the video seriously, praying for the singer to get the help he needs. "Let's pray and also assist this man in whatever way we can," someone penned. A fellow supporter offered to give Ray J a place to stay.
The Media Personality Recounted His Jail Experience
Weeks before his bizarre plea for aid, Ray J had gotten into trouble with the law for allegedly pulling a gun on his estranged wife. The Blast covered the story, reporting that he was arrested on November 27 and was later released the same day after posting bond.
After regaining his freedom, Ray J recounted his ordeal during a livestream, revealing that he nearly got into a fight with another cellmate. According to the media personality, the man had been jerking off in his presence and allegedly called his name during the act.
The incident traumatized Ray J, who warned fans to avoid going to jail at all costs. His arrest stemmed from an incident with his estranged wife in the early hours of November 27, when he was heard in a livestream threatening to shoot someone if they did not leave his house.
Ray J's Legal Troubles Increase With Debt Lawsuit

The gun-pulling incident had barely died down when news surfaced of a debt lawsuit against Ray J. The Blast shared that American Express had dropped breach of contract allegations against the rapper and his streaming platform, Tronix Network, on November 19.
The organization accused Ray J and his company of owing $139,849.85. American Express explained that the media personality had stopped making payments on his credit card since May and never made an effort to repay the six-figure balance.
Days before the lawsuit surfaced, The Blast reported that Ray J's estranged wife had shared her side of the story. Princess Love claimed her ex pulled a gun on her and her cousin's husband when she tried to take their children. She explained that she did not want them to spend Thanksgiving alone with him unsupervised.
