Patrick Mahomes is disheartened after suffering an ACL tear on Sunday. Kansas City Chiefs' coach Andy Reid said the situation has left the star quarterback feeling like he "let people down."

Mahomes and his teammates have suffered a disappointing run of results this season and have now been eliminated from postseason contention following their 13-16 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.

Reid believes that Patrick Mahomes can come back stronger for next season if he commits to rehab, but that's regardless of the fact that the Chiefs are set to take a financial hit with his injury.

Patrick Mahomes is not happy with himself after suffering a season-ending ACL tear during the Kansas City Chiefs' loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

The 30-year-old football star fell awkwardly after he was pressured by Da'Shawn Hand, with his left knee taking a hit.

The injury has ruled him out for the final three games of the regular season, and his coach, Andy Reid, shared that he feels like he "let people down."

Appearing in a Monday interview with "KC Sports Network," Reid shared that he has visited Mahomes "a couple different times," adding that he's currently "in a good place," per People Magazine.

However, he went further to share that the star footballer "always feels like he let people down, but then he comes back, and he's ready for the challenge ahead, which is what's real right now, he's just got to get through surgery or whatever it might be and move on from there."

The Chiefs took to X to confirm that Mahomes had a "successful" surgery hours after sustaining the injury, as fans hope for a quick recovery for him.

"Patrick Mahomes successfully underwent surgery in Dallas this evening with Dr. Dan Cooper to repair the tear in his left ACL," the team wrote, adding that he "will begin his rehab process immediately."

ESPN's insider Adam Schefter also reported that he underwent surgery in Dallas on Monday evening and is expected to begin his rehab process to fully recover.

"Typical recovery for an injury like this is about nine months, which would be about Sept. 15th, putting Patrick Mahomes up against the start of the 2026 season," Schefter wrote in a post on X.

"Don't know why this had to happen," he wrote. "And not going to lie, it hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again."

"I will be back stronger than ever," Mahomes concluded the post.

Chiefs' fans were very supportive of him as they took to the comment section to wish him well.

"The best is yet to come for you, brother," a fan wrote. "Can't wait to see how you respond."

Another fan said, "Rooting for your recovery and looking forward to seeing you back in action, neighbor."

"Tough season, but you've had an insane 7-year run to start your career. Heal up and run it back next season. Best of luck on your recovery," a third user wrote.

It's been a tough season for Mahomes and his teammates as Sunday's loss officially dashed their playoff hopes.

It'll make it the first time in more than 10 years that the Kansas City Chiefs didn't make it to the postseason stage, which they've gone on to win three times in the last six years.

Mahomes' teammate Travis Kelce recently lamented on the disappointing results they've had to endure, saying, "You put in all this f-cking work and hope that it pays off. And right now, it's just for whatever f-cking reason, man, it's little things."

Mahomes' teammate, Kelce, went further to say that he feels like he has "always had the answers in years past," but this time around, he "just can't find them."

Kelce added, "I keep thinking if I show up to work and I put in the work and I fix the issues through my practice habits and through perfecting the game plan and my fundamentals and what I'm being taught and go out there and try and play my -ss off for my guys next to me, it's all going to come together like it has in years past."

"And this year is just not, man," he added at the time.
