Cristina reportedly sent a chilling final text to her mother just moments before the small plane she was aboard crashed on Thursday, December 18, killing everyone on board.

According to her mother, Cathy Grossu, Cristina messaged her shortly before the crash with a stark warning. Fighting back tears, Cathy told People Magazine that her daughter texted from the plane, writing: "We're in trouble."

"That was it. So we're devastated. We're brokenhearted," Cathy shared.

The crash claimed seven lives: Greg Biffle, 55; Cristina; their 5-year-old son, Ryder; Greg's 14-year-old daughter, Emma, whom he shared with ex-wife Nicole Lunders; Dennis Dutton and his son Jack; and Craig Wadsworth.

Cathy explained that the group had been traveling in Florida for what was intended to be a joyful birthday celebration. She said the thought that such a happy family trip ended in tragedy is almost impossible to process.

"To see the horrific way that it ended, it's just, it is so hard to bear. I cannot believe they're gone," she said.

Cathy shared that she had seen Cristina, Greg, and the children just the day before the crash, but struggles to recall their final conversation.

"I don't remember what the last words that I said to my daughter or to Greg or to my precious Ryder," she said. "I don't remember. I know we hugged, but I don't remember those last words, and that's going to haunt me. But they were happy."

Describing Greg, Ryder, and Emma, Cathy said they lived life fully and passionately.

"They were doing so many good things," she noted. "They embraced every aspect of their life and every moment. And it's such a loss. They touched so many people's lives. It is so hard to bear. I cannot believe they're gone."

One of Cathy's last meaningful conversations with her daughter revolved around Cristina's dedication to helping others. Cristina had been personally funding and organizing Santa letters for families in need and was determined to finish the final batch before leaving.

He described Greg not only as a celebrated NASCAR champion but also as an "extraordinary person as well, and will be remembered for his service to others as much as for his fearlessness on the track."

The aircraft reportedly departed the airport before turning back shortly after takeoff, a detail that could suggest a mechanical problem, according to WCNC chief meteorologist Brad Panovich, who reviewed publicly available flight data.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) later confirmed to the Daily Mail that the Cessna C550 went down while attempting to land.

Following the tragedy, NASCAR released a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of Greg and the others who died in the crash.

"NASCAR is devastated by the tragic loss of Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, son Ryder, Craig Wadsworth, and Dennis and Jack Dutton in a fatal plane crash," the organization said.
