Matthew McConaughey & Zoe Saldaña To Star In Netflix Romance Movie ‘Positano’

Hollywood stars Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña will headline a romance caper, Positano, at Netflix, from Tuner director Daniel Roher.

Matthew McConaughey and Zoe Saldaña have both starred in one Netflix project each; McConaughey voiced the lead in Agent Elvis, and Saldaña was in the limited series From Scratch. Both actors have some of the most esteemed filmographies in the industry. Saldaña’s films alone have grossed over $15 billion at the box office, while McConaughey’s forays have grossed over $3 billion. Upcoming romantic caper Positano will be their first-ever collaboration. 

Per Deadline, Positano is currently in development with Daniel Roher (Tuner, Blink) on board to direct. Roher is highly renowned for his work on Navalny (2002), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The script was penned by Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood, the creative duo behind movies The Sitter (2011) and Sharper (2023). Working Title founders Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan are producing. Netflix is yet to announce the film.

Outside of the cast and creative team, plot details are being kept under lock and key. The film will be set in the Italian town of Positano, a picturesque spot on the Amalfi Coast that very much lends itself to the romance caper theme. 

For the last few years, McConaughey has spent most of his time pursuing voice roles, notably appearing in Agent Elvis, Sing 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine. He began to foray back in front of the camera in 2025, starring in crime drama The Rivals of Amziah King and Apple TV’s survival thriller The Lost Bus.

Meanwhile, Zoe Saldaña continues to land massive roles. She’s currently back on the big screen, reprising her role of Neytiri in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash.
