Matt Rogers, Bowen Yang Under Fire Over Controversial Remarks About Texas Politician Jasmine Crockett

Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang have not shied away from discussing politics on their podcast, "Las Culturistas." However, it appears some listeners and social media users wished that they would.
During a recent episode, the two pop culture figures discussed Democratic candidates, including Texas politician Jasmine Crockett, and urged their listeners not to donate to her Senate campaign.
After their comments went viral, Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang faced intense backlash from the audience, prompting them to issue an apology that left many unimpressed.

In clips circulating online, Rogers and Yang spent part of their recent podcast discussing politicians, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and US Representative Crockett.
"Anytime a politician is making it about themselves, I'm already done," Rogers said during the episode before urging his followers not to "waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett." He added, "Do not do it."
Yang immediately chimed in, echoing Rogers' statements. Rogers went on, "You're going to waste your money, take it from someone who sent Sara Gideon a ton of money in Maine. Just don't do it."
Matt Rogers Says He Doesn't Have Anything Against Crockett, But Doesn't Think She'll Win A Texas Senate Seat
White (and white adjacent) gays get on my fucking nerves… because what is Bowen Yang even doing speaking on Jasmine Crockett?

That wasn't all Rogers had to say, however. The comedian attempted to justify his comments, pointing to Beto O'Rourke, who lost the Senate seat in the 2018 election, before returning to Crockett.
"It's nothing against her, it's just that she is a politician who is very well-defined already, and it is my opinion that we are going to need someone less defined in this moment that rises up," he said. "I'm interested in this [James] Talarico guy from Texas."
Listeners weren't pleased with Rogers and Yang's statements on their very public platform, with one social media user slamming "White (and white adjacent) gays," while another shared an image of the two podcasters, labeling them as "toxic."
Matt Rogers Apologized For His Statements; However, The Public Isn't Here For It

Rogers quickly walked back his statements after being criticized by users online. "Hey everybody. I hear the response and I am taking every bit of it to heart, I promise," he wrote in a post shared to his Instagram Stories.
The "Search Party" actor explained that "transparency and candor matter to me," and that he's passionate "about winning these elections." He later admitted that his "phrasing" regarding Crockett and her Senate run "was not right."
"I have great respect and admiration for Rep. Crockett, and I regret that my words suggested otherwise," he added. "I just want us to win and I will be better and finding ways to help."
Social Media Users Are Still Torching Rogers And Yang Following Harsh Critique Of The Politician

On Instagram, users didn't hold back when sharing their responses to Rogers and Yang, as one user stated that it was "not their place" to criticize Crockett, while another questioned why "two people who don't even live in Texas are discouraging people from donating or voting" for a Democratic candidate.
"These people are our biggest OPs. We are not on the same team. Pay attention to these types," another user wrote. "Honestly no more white excuses or white tears accepted. They knew what they were doing and did not care what black lash they received as long as they got the views and engagement. Cancel them indefinitely," a third shared.
Several other users encouraged Crockett supporters to flood her campaign with donations so that she could have the best chance at reaching the people of Texas before the 2026 election.
Rogers Addresses His Relationship With Andy Cohen
Rogers also made headlines recently after public chatter about his relationship with "Real Housewives" executive producer Andy Cohen. After a clip of the pair on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" went viral, Rogers took a moment to clear the air, shutting down all of the rumors about their supposed romantic escapades.
"By the way, just to make this explicitly clear. I have never had sex with Andy Cohen. I will never have sex with Andy Cohen," he said. "At one point, I kind of wanted to in the very, very, very beginning."
Rogers explained that if he and Cohen were going to have sex, the deed would've happened by now. "If you ever see me talking to Andy in a way that would suggest we’ve had sex, it’s because we are flirting, because it’s funny," he added.
In a final attempt to quash the rumors, Rogers reminded his "Las Culturistas" listeners that he now works for Cohen, so any romantic relationship would be highly unethical. "He is a friend. He is now our boss. That’s the extent of it," he said.
