Matt Johnson's 'Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie' Official Trailer
"Ladies & Gentlemen you're probably wondering who we are? We are Nirvanna the Band." Wait, uh who? Oh this looks bonkers! Neon has launched the official trailer for the hilarious indie comedy mockumentary called Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, the latest ingenious film from Canadian mastermind Matt Johnson (of Operation Avalanche, BlackBerry, Matt & Mara). This premiered at SXSW and at TIFF last year to stellar reviews - considered one of the best new comedies of 2025. It's a fun throwback to an old series called "Nirvana the Band the Show", created by Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol in 2007, about these two goofballs trying to get their band a show at the Rivoli. This new movie is a meta mock riff. When their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008. Mayhem ensues. "Utilizing meticulous visual effects, costuming, and judicious integration of archival footage to recreate Toronto’s not-so-distant past, Johnson and his collaborators polish a satirically sobering and riotously funny cultural mirror that reflects just how much (and how little) things have changed, all the while celebrating the infectious joy of living for your dreams… with a little help from your friends." Oh I'm ALL in. If you're sold already, you don't even need to see this new trailer. Catch this in theaters in February. // Continue Reading ›
