Mama June Painfully Remembers Daughter's Death as 'One of the Most Hardest Things' Even Over Addiction

The TV personality took to Instagram to share a vulnerable post about navigating life while dealing with the tragic loss of her daughter, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell.
The "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" star acknowledged that she was still struggling to come to terms with reality and encouraged fans to leave loving messages on her late daughter’s social media pages.
Mama June’s daughter passed away in 2023 at the age of 29, following a battle with cancer.
Mama June Reflects On Being An ‘Emotional Wreck’ As A Result Of Her Grief
Mama June shared a lengthy video on Instagram, reflecting on her struggles amid grieving the loss of her daughter.
At the start of the video, she explained that people often assumed she was no longer grieving her late daughter because she wasn’t constantly posting herself crying on social media.
She then slammed the narrative, saying, “Just ‘cause I’m not on here boo-hooing doesn’t mean I don’t have bad days. Don’t mean I’m not a f-cking emotional wreck half the damn time.”
The reality star made a heartwarming request to fans, asking them to share tributes to her late daughter on social media “to keep her pages alive.”
She encouraged them to post their favorite memories of Cardell, noting that her daughter would’ve loved them because she “loved the f——— spotlight.”
The TV Personality Never Thought She Would Have To Deal With Loss Like This
In the caption of the video, Mama June penned a lengthy note, admitting that she never knew she would have to deal with grief such as this one. She shared that even though it’s been two years, she still struggles with each passing day. In her words:
“Today has been 2 years since @annamarie35 left us, and it feels like a dream. It isn’t right, and every day is a struggle, as losing a child has been one of the hardest things that I’ve had to face, even over drug addiction and 46 years. This is something that I never thought that I would have to deal with.”
Mama June admitted that although she is struggling mentally and emotionally, she tries to “get up” and do what she needs to do even when she doesn’t feel like it.
The 46-year-old star shared that at the end of the day, her daughter’s death taught her that “life is way too short.” She then encouraged her audience to leave unhappy relationships, be kind, and “let karma take over.”
Mama June Opens Up About The Effect Of Her Daughter’s Absence On Her Grandkids
This is not the first time Mama June has laid her feelings bare for all to see. Shortly before the second anniversary of her daughter’s death, she admitted that one of the most challenging aspects of losing her daughter is watching her grandkids struggle.
“Her just not being here for the girls, and a lot [of] sh-t has happened," she said, as reported by The Blast.
She also revealed that there was a custody battle over one of her granddaughters, but her daughter was not alive to witness any of it.
How Mama June Triumphed Over Anna Cardwell’s Ex In Custody Battle
Mama June and Anna’s ex, Michael Cardwell, both wanted custody of Kaitlyn, one of Anna’s daughters.
However, after a lengthy legal battle, in September 2024, a court order was issued, stating that “Legal and physical custody of the minor child is to remain with Mama June.”
As The Blast reported, the court order also stated that Michael is not allowed to visit Kaitlyn except he is granted visitation rights.
Mama June’s Other Daughter Was Involved In A Car Crash
Shortly after Mama June’s custody victory over her granddaughter, tragedy threatened to strike again when another daughter of hers was involved in a car crash.
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson had her first car crash in September, and the incident left the family shaken.
According to The Blast, Mama June shared a video on Instagram, revealing that her daughter had been hit by a man going at 40 MPH. Although the 20-year-old was “banged up a little bit,” she was only treated for minor injuries, from which she recovered fully.
