Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s split appeared deceptively calm on the surface and was finalized without public drama or courtroom spectacle. 

However, insiders say the reality behind the January 6 settlement was far more tense. 

At the heart of the divorce was a deeply personal battle neither side was prepared to compromise on easily: custody of their two teenage daughters. 

According to those close to the negotiations, the disagreement reopened old wounds for Kidman and ultimately reshaped both of their lives.

On January 6, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban finalized their settlement agreement, bringing their 19-year marriage to an end. 

The settlement appeared amicable with both parties waiving claims to spousal and child support. 

In addition, it was finalized that Kidman will spend 306 days with the kids while Urban will have them for 59 days.

While the divorce paperwork may have looked clean, sources say negotiations were anything but easy. 

According to insiders, custody of daughters Sunday and Faith quickly became the most contentious issue.

“The one thing that became a sticking point was custody of Sunday and Faith,” an insider told the Daily Mail. “Keith was initially asking for equal time with their daughters.”

That request reportedly caught Nicole Kidman off guard and sent her into emotional turmoil. 

“It was an especially stressful time for Nic,” the insider added. “After almost 20 years of marriage, she certainly knows how stubborn Keith can be. She was anxious and distressed that he wasn’t going to budge.”

Sources say Nicole Kidman’s determination was heavily influenced by her previous divorce from Tom Cruise in 2001.

Ultimately, insiders say the practicality of daily life weighed heavily. 

“Nic won out,” the first insider confirmed. “It took a lot of wearing down but Keith finally agreed to her terms.” 

Kidman Remained Anchored As Urban Drifted

As part of the settlement, Nicole Kidman will remain in the family’s Nashville mansion, a seven-bedroom home purchased in 2008 to raise their children. 

Her ex-husband moved to a nearby residence last summer, but friends say the reality of separation has hit him harder than expected.

While the “Babygirl” actress flew the girls to Australia for Christmas, where Faith celebrated her 15th birthday, Urban stayed behind. 

According to a friend , not being with his daughter on her special day was like a “gut punch” to Urban. They also noted that the singer felt “completely lost.”

Urban has since bounced between Palm Beach, Fort Worth, and Nashville, leaning heavily on work to cope. 

“He’s focusing on work because it’s the only structure he has left,” the friend told New Idea.“But without Nicole and the girls, he has no compass.”

Despite rumors linking him to younger musicians, no relationship has been confirmed. 

“He’s looking to enjoy his bachelorhood, however that turns out,” the insider explained.

Friends say that even surrounded by confidants like Blake Shelton and Garth Brooks, the loss still looms large. 

“This isn’t how Keith saw his life turning out,” another insider said. “He’s not just adjusting to divorce. He’s mourning the loss of the world he thought he’d grow old in.”
