Djimon Hounsou's Baby Mama Breaks Silence After Assault Arrest

Djimon Hounsou's baby mama is fighting back!
The actor's former partner, Ri'za Marie Simpson, is claiming that she never went offensively with him, and she has audio recordings to prove her innocence.
Djimon Hounsou reported his kids' mother to the police last December, claiming that she physically attacked him when he told her to leave his Atlanta townhouse.
Djimon Hounsou's Baby Mama Shares Her Side Of The Story

Simpson claimed she recorded the conversation with Hounsou before her arrest, which occurred while she was heading to Miami on a trip to ease off tension from the relationship. The baby mama noted that they had been residing together despite separating about two years ago, until he decided to withhold her keys.
In the clip, Simpson could be heard demanding for her keys be returned, insisting that the actor had no right to evict her from the home, while promising to involve the police if he refused.
Hounsou was not silent in the conversation either, as he was heard referring to his estranged partner as a "bitter f-cking divorced person," and yelling at her to go out.
The actor's former partner noted that while they traded words, she was standing in the door of his vehicle to keep it from closing with her arm, although Hounsou kept trying to close the door on her.
Simpson insisted to TMZ that she did not make any attempt to hit him while all this was ongoing, nor was he injured. She simply left for her room to get away from the conversation, after which the actor threw her keys under the door and proceeded to the police station.
Ri'za Marie Simpson Is Ready To Defend Herself With The Recordings
The actor reportedly expressed to Simpson that he had no problems with their kids staying in the house but would change the security system and garage code to restrict Simpson's access to the property.
Simpson stated that despite the challenging situation between them right now, her only intention is to ensure that privacy, respect, and healthy communication remain a constant feature in her family.
"Djimon is not my enemy; he is the father of my two beautiful toddlers. I have consistently aimed to support, empower, and collaborate with him, both within and beyond our relationship," she continued.
The actor's baby mama stressed that when a family dynamic shifts for the worse, the kids tend to suffer the consequences, and her decision has been tailored to prevent any fallout whatsoever. Simpson concluded her post, stating:
"I sincerely hope we can find a place of balance and unity in the near future, not only for our own peace, but for the well-being of our beautiful son and daughter."
Djimon Hounsou Claimed Their Kids May Have Heard Them Arguing
The actor, who recently broke up with Kimora Lee Simmons, reported his baby mama to law enforcement last year, informing them that Simpson hit him while their two kids were in the house.
As shared by The Blast, Hounsou claimed that although they were not at the scene as witnesses, they may have heard it from their room upstairs.
Following his complaints, officers visited his Atlanta townhouse with a warrant out for Simpson and then arrested her for simple assault and obstruction for giving officers false information.
Law enforcement agents who visited the home during the arrest claimed they heard their kids crying in the background. Simpson is not the only woman Hounsou shares children with; he also welcomed a son with Simmons before an amicable split. They got together shortly after she broke up with her former husband, Russell Simmons, and subsequently shared that they were expecting a son, Kenzo Lee Hounsou, in 2009.
The Actor Is Off To An Early Busy 2026
His family drama aside, Hounsou is set to have a great outing at the 2026 edition of the AfroBerlin and AfroCannes festivals. AfroBerlin festival will run from February 14 to February 17, 2026. The festival was launched by the Yanibes Foundation in 2022 to enable African creatives at home and in the diaspora to discuss narratives against the backdrop of the Berlinale and Cannes Film Festival.
As shared by Deadline, the actor's presence at the events marked a defining moment for the platforms due to his inspiring story of how he rose from Africa to become a global cinema star. He is renowned for his impeccable performances in movies like "Amistad," "In America," "Blood Diamond," "Gladiator," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "A Quiet Place: Day One."
Under the initiative, titled "Djimon Hounsou: A Living Bridge Between Legacy and the Future", the actor will participate in keynote conversations, public dialogues, and curated industry sessions at both meetings.
Important topics to be discussed include generational legacy and intergenerational transmission in cinema; cultural sovereignty and narrative ownership.
The actor will also join others to talk about the responsibility of global storytellers in shaping identity and perception and building equitable bridges between Africa, Europe, and Hollywood.
Djimon Hounsou Dropped From Central Villain Role In "How To Train Your Dragon 2"

The live-action movie has done a bit of reshuffling to its cast lineup, and Hounsou will not be proceeding with the rest of the crew. The actor was replaced by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson to play the role of Drogo in the movie and is expected to embody the character as they transition from animation to live-action.
Superherohype shared that Hounsou's former character, Drogo Bludvist, was first introduced as the main villain in the animated film, where he played a ruthless dragon hunter. He had a mission to control the dragons rather than coexist and form a relationship with them.
Hounsou voiced the character in the animated series, which means his fans will get to hear a whole different person behind his image for the live-action series.
"How to Train Your Dragon 2" retained a larger part of its main cast, such as Mason Thames, Nico Parker, Gerard Butler, and Julian Dennison. Cate Blanchett has also been confirmed to return as Valka, the role she voiced in the animated films.
How will Djimon Hounsou react to Ri'za Marie Simpson's claims?
