According to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Moon was killed in a traffic collision on the morning of January 8 and later succumbed to traumatic injuries.

Moon’s family confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement shared on Facebook, describing him as the cornerstone of their family. “We are overcome with grief to announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Guy Moon,” the statement read. “He was killed on Thursday morning in a traffic collision. We feel singularly blessed to have been able to call him dad and husband.”

The family went on to reflect on Moon’s life, legacy, and the impact he had on those around him. “As we stand together at the base of what seems to be an insurmountable grief, we are emboldened to grieve him with honor and courage with the tools that he equipped us with in his beautiful life.”

They added that Moon “has left an unmistakable legacy, and will be profoundly missed by us, his family, and countless others whose lives he impacted.” The statement concluded with plans to honor Moon’s life with a celebration scheduled for what would have been his 64th birthday on February 7 in Los Angeles. A second ceremony will also be held in his home state of Wisconsin.

Following news of Moon’s death, Hartman shared an emotional tribute on Instagram Stories. Alongside a reposted photo of the late composer, Hartman wrote, “I have no words yet because there are none adequate enough. I will be making a statement soon. Guy was my friend. My brother. My family.”

News of Moon’s sudden death prompted an outpouring of grief across social media, with fans and fellow creatives expressing shock over the loss of a composer whose work shaped countless childhoods.

Moon’s passing comes during an especially difficult period for the animation community, which has also been grappling with the recent health struggles and death of Jeff Garcia, best known as a voice from "Jimmy Neutron." Garcia reportedly suffered a brain aneurysm in the spring, during which he fell and hit his head. Although he recovered from the aneurysm, sources say he later suffered a stroke several weeks ago.

His first credited work as a composer came in 1983 on the sitcom "Square Pegs," followed by his work on the sci-fi horror film "Creepozoids." Throughout the 1990s, Moon’s career continued to gain momentum. He contributed music to projects including "The Addams Family," "The Brady Bunch Movie," "The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest," and "Cow and Chicken."

Moon became especially well-known for his work on animated series created by Butch Hartman, composing music for "The Fairly OddParents," "Danny Phantom," and "T.U.F.F. Puppy." His Nickelodeon credits also included "Grim & Evil," "ChalkZone," "Back at the Barnyard," and composing the main title theme for "Yin Yang Yo!." Moon also worked on "Big Time Rush" and the 2012 film "Big Time Movie."

More recently, he composed music for 30 episodes of Netflix’s revival of "Johnny Test" and the 2024 drama series "The Green Veil." His most recent credit was on the 2025 murder mystery series "The Artist," which premiered in November, according to his official IMDb page.
