Chris Brown really wants the past to stay in the past!

The singer is now asking that the court leave out all the episodes in his life featuring his former partner Rihanna from his ongoing lawsuit, as they prepare to head to trial.

Chris Brown was dragged to court by his former employees, Patricia and Maria Avila, who are demanding $90 million in damages following allegations of permanent injuries caused by his dog, which attacked Maria while she worked with him.

In their latest filing, Brown’s lawyer asked the judge for an order that would preclude Maria, Patricia, their counsel, and any witnesses from introducing or referring to any alleged past incidents of domestic violence.

The legal team made mention of Rihanna’s domestic violence case, which happened on the night of February 8, 2009. The singer’s lawyer explained that they expected Maria’s lawyer to try to bring back evidence or reference from the past incidents of domestic violence involving their client and the “Umbrella” singer.

Brown’s lawyers insisted that any reference to alleged incidents of domestic violence that happened more than a decade ago does not need to be involved in the case. As shared by US Magazine, they expressed that such references must be deemed "improper, irrelevant, and unduly prejudicial."

Brown’s legal counsel emphasized that the acceptance or admission of that kind of evidence posed a serious risk of “unfair prejudice, confusion of issues,” which may affect the jury’s decision.

The musician’s lawyer continued that none of the allegations from his past cases are related to the dog, the alleged dog bite, or any fact in controversy in the ongoing case.

The legal team attached a portion from Brown’s transcript in February 2025 where he was asked about his criminal history, which, according to him, included about two felonies, one being the alleged assault and battery involving Rihanna in 2009.

Brown pleaded guilty to one count of felony in 2009, earning him a five-year sentence of probation, community labor, and counseling. In a separate filing, Brown urged the judge to bar any reference to prior incidents, complaints, investigations, or allegations of domestic violence or assault” that involve him.

In May 2025, The Blast shared that Brown fired back at his accusers by providing evidence that he indeed offered her assistance after his dog attacked Maria. Brown’s team provided her response to the Animal Control Officer Angela Hooks that Brown and a security guard attended to her after hearing screams.

The media personality’s attorneys stressed that he had called for paramedics and restrained the dog from carrying out further attacks, thus putting himself at risk during the tense situation.

Brown’s camp established that he acted very quickly to help out and had no initial knowledge that his dog, Hades, was a threat to his staff. The singer even cited a member of his security team, stating that his dog had always exhibited playfulness and accommodating behavior towards everyone.

However, Brown’s lawyer slammed Maria for disregarding instructions from another member of Brown’s security team who warned them not to hang around the dog unsupervised.

Last April, the R&B singer dragged Warner Bros to court for their alleged defamation documentary “Chris Brown: A History of Violence,” which allegedly distorted facts about his past. As noted by The Blast, Warner Bros responded to the lawsuit with media reports from Brown’s 2009 felony assault case against Rihanna.

Warner Bros also spotlighted his guilty plea and court-ordered counseling, which their legal team insists are publicly available stories. They insisted that the contents of the documentary and the production of the film are duly protected under the free speech law.

Aside from his assault against Rihanna, Warner Bros’ attorneys also submitted a press coverage about his relationship with Karrueche Tran, which was equally allegedly abusive. They attached a five-year restraining order she was granted in 2017 and another report of his alleged brawl with Frank Ocean.

In an interview with Diane Sawyer in 2009, Rihanna shared her experience during the assault and how it felt the very moment Brown attacked her. She recalled the singer having no soul in his eyes and her realization that her decision to love as a young girl could get her killed.

Following the encounter, Brown was subsequently arrested and placed on five years of probation, community service, and domestic violence counseling. The singer has since returned to music, although his several allegations of violence since the Rihanna case have not helped his public image.

Aside from Avila’s allegations, he was also dragged to a law court in London, where he was accused of causing bodily harm and using an offensive weapon in a nightclub in February 2023.

Will Chris Brown successfully keep this record out of his case?
