Bari Weiss to Host CBS News Town Hall Interview With Erika Kirk on Faith, Grief and Charlie

Bari Weiss will host a CBS News town hall with Charlie Kirk widow Erika Kirk next week in New York City.

The live event is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on Dec. 10 and will cover “faith, grief, perseverance and the memory of her husband, Charlie Kirk,” according to an unpublished online registration link.

The town hall interview will be recorded and televised on CBS News Dec. 13 at 8 p.m., according to internal documents reviewed by The Guardian.

Representatives for CBS News did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

The move to host Kirk, widow to the divisive conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, marks the latest effort from Weiss to bring editorial balance to CBS News’ political coverage. The Free Press founder and podcaster Weiss was appointed by Paramount CEO David Ellison in October as part of the Skydance merger takeover and a CBS News overhaul that saw several prominent resignations. Weiss has sought to make bold changes to the news network’s programming in her two months on the job, reportedly extending interest to cable stars like Anderson Cooper and Bret Baier for anchor positions and most recently setting her sights on CNN.

In the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s Sept. 10 assassination, Erika has stepped in as his Turning Point USA successor and currently stands as chairman and CEO of the conservative youth organization.

Conservatism appears to be an important component of the upcoming town hall. Registrants of the 1iota link are prompted with demographic questions like, “Do you consider yourself a conservative? If so, why?” Additional questions cover attendees’ religions and their experience with grief.

The Dec. 13 telecast will be Weiss’ first time appearing on CBS News since becoming its editor-in-chief.
